The first Czech sailor ever to compete in a solo, non-stop, around-the-world race
In an extraordinary announcement on November 5, 2024, Michal Krysta, a renowned Czech extreme sportsman, officially confirmed his participation in the 2028 Vendée Globe—the world’s most demanding solo, non-stop, and unassisted sailing race around the globe. His ambitious goal is to become the first Czech to complete this iconic race, known as the “Everest of the Seas.” This race spans over 24,300 nautical miles (45,000 km) through some of the most unpredictable and harshest oceanic environments on the planet.

- Solo, non-stop, without assistance, around-the-world race.
- 24K NM (44,4K KM) through the planet’s most dangerous waters.
- Known as the “Everest of the Seas”.
- Only the best sailors qualify.
- Only 114 out of 200 skippers have finished the race in 35 years.
Why Vendée Globe?
The Vendée Globe is more than a race—it is the ultimate test of human endurance and resilience, pushing participants to their physical and psychological limits. For Michal Krysta, the Vendée Globe represents the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to pushing boundaries across extreme sports, from paragliding and kayaking to mountaineering. “It’s a challenge that defies comparison,” Krysta shares. “This journey will be a test of not only my physical abilities but also my mental strength and resilience. The Vendée Globe will show what true determination and the power of the human spirit mean.”

AROUND THE WORLD
The Vendée Globe is the ultimate solo, nonstop, around-the-world sailing race, often called the “Everest of the Seas.” Sailors face extreme conditions, navigating 24,000 nautical miles through treacherous waters, from the Atlantic to the Southern Ocean, and back.
Competitors battle fierce storms, icebergs, isolation, and exhaustion, with no assistance allowed. The race, which begins and ends in Les Sables-d'Olonne, France, pushes both sailors and their boats to their limits, testing endurance, skill, and mental strength like no other event.

The BOAT
Krysta’s vessel for the Vendée Globe is a high-tech, fully carbon IMOCA 60, a yacht class often referred to as the “Formula 1 of the Oceans.” With a length of 18.28 meters, a mast height of 29 meters, and a top speed of 40 knots (75 km/h), this ocean-racing machine is engineered to withstand even the fiercest conditions the world’s seas have to offer. It represents the pinnacle of nautical engineering, boasting a lightweight, durable design essential for survival and performance in such a grueling race.

Length 18.28 m (60 ft) | Width 5.7 m | Max Speed 40 knots |

Michal’s Mission: Breaking Boundaries for the Czech Republic
Beyond his personal ambition, Krysta sees this race as an opportunity to inspire a new generation of adventurers and sports enthusiasts, encouraging others to dream big and embrace the spirit of exploration. By becoming the first Czech to complete the Vendée Globe, he hopes to create a legacy that echoes through Czech and international sports history.

Michal Krysta on the Journey Ahead
“Every individual has the power to overcome significant obstacles if they possess enough will and passion. For me, the Vendée Globe is more than a sporting goal; it’s a personal journey of self-discovery and resilience. It’s more than just a race—it’s a journey towards freedom and finding meaning in life.”
