RS21 World Championship

2022

International Sailing Competition

The RS21 World Championship, held from November 2 to 6, 2022, in the picturesque town of Biograd, Croatia, attracted crews from around the globe. Among them were two teams from the Czech Republic, one of which was led by Michal Krysta, whose crew included Ondřej Bobek, Jan Dvořák, and Viktor Brejcha.

The races were marked by unusual weather, as strong winds exceeding 30 knots made racing impossible for two days. Despite this adversity, Michal’s team decided to test their skills on the final day of competition. With determination and a desire for success, they achieved 5th, 19th, and 10th places, ultimately securing an impressive 18th overall out of 41 competitors. This is a remarkable accomplishment, especially considering it was their first time sailing the RS21.

“We gained a lot of new experiences, sailed on a new boat that none of us had previous experience with, and fought against an illness that affected almost all of us in the end. We will definitely leave feeling satisfied and motivated for future racing, maybe even again on the RS21,” Michal Krysta shared after the race.

With such success and a positive attitude, Michal Krysta and his team have a lot to build on. Although Tereza Šamšulová’s team finished in 36th place, the Czech representation in this prestigious regatta demonstrated that newcomers can shine on the world stage.
